State of the News Media 2012: Tech companies control the future of news
Technology companies such as Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple “now control the future of news.”
That’s one of the take-aways from the 2012 State of the News Media report, released yesterday by the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism.
The news industry, the report says, “finds itself more a follower than leader shaping its business.”
PEJ’s newest annual report on the health and status of American journalism is now online at www.stateofthenewsmedia.org. This year’s study includes a survey examining how news consumers use social media, a report on how mobile news consumption could change the news business, an update on the rapid changes in the realm of community news organizations, analysis of the eight media sectors and more.
