The triumph of quality over quantity

For a couple of years now, Ads Companies have been paying the websites per visit, giving place to the creation of pure ads websites, websites tricking users to click and enter another website (with other ads) and of course, social media sharing false ads also, or using titles to attract people to that content.

This kind of Ad is on its way to extinction, because companies are testing and choosing a new kind of metric for the Ads, that is, they’re using time spent on website. That’s fair, because, nowadays, if you open for a second a website full of ads, the people will be charged for the ads, ads that you didn’t really see or even want to see.

This change will motivate people to create websites where users want to stay and not just generate enough curiosity to make them click.

And this is only the beginning; changing the metric used to pay, is the first step to a new world of Ads. Big companies like Google are investigating a lot into Ads, the market and how to use it properly and they’re testing other metrics too. They are looking into something called content marketing, which is using the content as part of the marketing campaign. It sounds pretty interesting and only the future knows the limits of human imagination.

Most of the money made out of internet comes in a way or another from Ads, changing the way the Ads are paid, is like changing an entire system. It is a true revolution that may change the internet as we know it and you have to be ready, you have to accept the change and learn how to use the change in your favor.

How does it affect journalists?

As a journalist, if you have your own website, you’re actually being paid per visit, but in the future you’ll be paid per time spent by users. This means that you have to improve your content, make it interesting enough for people to stay.

But on the other hand, it means that you won’t need to worry about making lots of websites to get money out of it, a simple good website with good content and a few Ads will be better than an empty website full of Ads, because in the first one, people will stay and you’ll be paid for that.

Some final words

If you have a website and that’s your business, you have to pay attention to this kind of news, the wind of change is blowing and if you listen carefully to it, you’ll be able to make use of it almost without limits. If you change your website in favor of the new system in the right time, you’ll earn a lot more money, and you’ll be able to understand what’s going on. Information is power, you, as journalist, know that.
