Javier Valdez is the sixth journalist to be killed in Mexico this year and one of more than 100 journalists who have been murdered since 2000. President Enrique Peña Nieto announced a range of «extraordinary measures» designed to protect journalists and to put an end to the killings linked to drug trafficking
